Home on Virtual Land?

I have been wondering how people set up websites, register for domain names and webhosting for a long time. Internet has fascinated me since its inception and until now, I'm still wondering how people ever got themselves a piece of the virtual world.

No doubt, internet is going to hit us in a bigger wave and when it's here, there's no way of stopping it. Ride the wave or get left behind.

Internet and the computer has become an integral part of our lives, without it, you feel uneasy, well at least for me. I can't live without internet.. my dear computer is the doorway to the whole world out there, linking me to places miles and miles away.

A good broadband connection coupled with a good instant messaging programme and a webcam, someone far away can feel like just next to you. I wonder will anyone in the future still make expensive long distance calls when they can use free P2P call programme like skype.

When long distance relationship once sounds like an impossible feat, nowadays, technology has made it not only possible to maintain, but also quick becoming a trend. This is what I've observed as people around the world get more mobile, global and connected. Proof? I know of at least five close friends/family/relatives of mine doing that and still going strong.

Well, I suppose soon, everyone will have a virtual presence - be it buying virtual real estate aka personal homepage or having a virtual address aka domain names to direct people to your home. Cool isn't it?

Well with that, my curiosity got the better of me and I stumbled upon this place aka real estate agent in real life, who can let you buy a piece of the virtual world (web hosting) or get yourself a virtual address (URL).

Check out THIS WEBSITE and you will be surprised how easy it is to make your online presence felt. Hey, the cool thing is, they even have a website builder, for beginners like myself to play around with.

Haha.. am really considering of getting a 'home' on the virtual land soon. Still toying with the idea though. Hmm.... dare to join me? ;)

  • helo..i do agree with you that many people do set up blogs and websites to make their presense felt in the net.in some way, it represents what the really want to be, their own self, with anomynity from the real world..for sure the internet had made the world a much smaller place than it had ever been...wonder when this wonderful technology will truly be availble to the masses...ciaoz...

  • hi casper, glad to know someone is actually reading my blog and not just gathering cyberdust. :)

soon i believe, the masses will get to experience a world without boundaries. Like what you said - it is just a matter of time.

Well my gut feel is that we do not have to wait until our hair turns white for it to materialise, judging from the pace the technology has been moving till this point in time. ;P

  • a perspective depends on how you chooses to look at it..if you choose to look at the bright side, then it's bright, if you do otherwise, there will be no light no matter where you look... :)
